I’m reading a piece of research on capitalism and extreme poverty. Very disturbing for someone who thinks that capitalism is a powerful way to create value for society…

“For capital, the purpose of production is not primarily to meet human needs, as we might expect in a more democratic system, but rather to extract and accumulate profit."

We take this for granted, because we (Western society) are the beneficiaries of this model through centuries of global colonisation in many forms.

But does it have to be so?

How can we talk about this without falling into dogma?

How does this relate to the current state of our planet?
